Indian Takeaway Dinner
India is the traditional home of vegetarians so it’s no coincidence that Indian food has long been popular amongst vegans. Before the rise of veganism and more options in mainstream pubs, restaurants and cafes, Indian restaurants were often the main source of eating out for we ‘vegetableists’! Many restaurants offer a vegetarian or even a vegan thali or just a list of veggie main courses and side dishes – ask the waiter to ensure your choices are vegan – they should have an allergen menu list. The vegetarian versions are usually easy to ‘veganise’ eg leave out anything cooked in butter ghee or omit the yoghurt and repace naan bread with chappatis.
As well as every Indian restaurant having a fairly extensive ‘vegetable sides’ and other vegetarian foods, there are more and more pure vegetarian businesses in the UK now and even a few vegan ones – London, Leicester, Manchester and many more places – a quick search on My Vegan Town or Yelp or Happy Cow will give you some pointers!

Did you know that V30 is run by a charity?
We create vital resources to help educate everyone – vegan veterans, novices and the v-curious alike – about vegan food, health and nutrition; as well as the plight of farmed animals and the devastating environmental impact of farming.
Through this work we have helped thousands of people discover veganism; but we want to reach millions more! We rely entirely on donations as we don’t get any government funding. If you already support us, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, you are really making a difference! Please share our details with your friends and loved ones too, as every donation enables us to keep fighting for change.
